Two Rooms Records was founded in 2018 as a collaboration between musician/composer Joel Petetrson, co-founder of Trinosophes art space, and Sam Hooker, who was a founding member of M.U.G., aka Michigan Underground. The label specializes in contemporary and historic recordings from a genre-free but largely Detroit-centric perspective.

About our album art

Generations, wave upon wave, feed a tradition by bearing witness and then taking care to remember. So it is that Two Rooms, publisher of new and historic music made and recorded in Detroit, features the rich legacy of Motor City visual art on its album covers, from the seminal Cass Corridor scene to varieties of contemporary abstraction, poetic realism, and installation. An offshoot of Trinosophes in the city's Eastern Market, and Michigan Underground Group, Two Rooms makes a two-fold project statement: "these are our visions" and "this is our music."  —George Tysh Detroit, May 2018

In conjunction with the launch of Two Rooms, visual artists from Detroit's past and present have been invited to produce covers for every LP that the label produces.

The first three albums, released in July 2018, feature original paintings by Janet Hamrick, Stephen Magsig and Paul Schwarz. These were followed by Rick Vian and Susan Goethel Campbell. (Please note: their works may be cropped to accommodate the 12 x 12-inch constraint of the LP format).
